Hockey News |
Oct. 27, 2002 The Bakersfield Condors scored six straight goals and easily beat the slumping San Diego Gulls 7-1 Sunday night, before 4,407 at the San Diego Sports Arena. The Gulls are now winless in their last four games. The Condors (2-2-0), took advantage of the struggling Gulls, jumping out to a 2-0 first period lead. Jason Ralph started the scoring with a short-handed breakaway goal at 11:01 of the first period. Ralph took a feed from Bakersfield newcomer Jimmy Drolet and beat Trevor Koenig for his first goal of the season. Christian Skoryna gave the Condors a two-goal lead at 12:18, with a quick wrist shot from the right face off circle. San Diego (3-3-1) didn't get its first shot on goal until midway through the opening frame. Bakersfield continued its barrage in the second period, netting four more goals. Jonathan Sorg got his first goal of the season off a one-time pass by Shawn Byram at 2:30. Then Byram notched his first goal at 7:21 to give the Condors a commanding 4-0 lead. Rookie netminder Cam McCormick spelled Koenig, but didn't fare much better. Paul Willett trickled in a shot at 13:34 for his third goal of the season. But Bakersfield wasn't done, netting one more at 18:28 of the middle frame. Denis Ladouceur, playing in his first game of the season, found the back of the net, putting the Condors up by six. San Diego finally got on the board at 2:22 as Mark Pederson slid a shot past Bakersfield's Kevin St. Pierre. But that was the lone Gulls highlight as the Condors cruised to the victory. Ralph got his second of the night and season at 16:59, adding insult to an already defeated Blue and Orange. Notepad |
